The Pomerol Appellation stands on the plateau that slopes down in consecutive terraces towards the Isle Valley, at the confluence of the Dordogne River.


The boundaries of the Appellation are:
- to the North, the Barbanne stream, tributary of the Isle River. It is recounted that this stream once separated the regions of the
“langue d’Oc “(language formerly spoken in southern France) and the “langue d’Oil” (language formerly spoken in central and northern France),
- to the East by Saint-Emilion,
- and to the South and West by the town of Libourne.

The soil of this plateau is formed at the surface by rather compact, clayey, sandy gravel. Everywhere the subsoil contains iron-rich clay known locally as “crasse de fer”. It is this particular subsoil that bestows Pomerol’s very distinct character.

The surface area of the Appellation is 813 hectares (that is to say 0.7% of the total area under vine in the Bordeaux winegrowing area).

Merlot 80%, Cabernet Franc 15% and Cabernet Sauvignon 5%: this is approximately the proportion of grape varieties grown in Pomerol.

The result obtained is quite amazing. Endowed with the richness of Burgundy, Pomerol combines the delicacy and length on the palate of Bordeaux’s Fine Wines.

This overall quality gives a remarkably characteristic wine. The success of Pomerol wines grows constantly, because its qualities satisfy the extremely high standards of leading connoisseurs and wine tasters, as well as those of the ordinary wine enthusiast.
